After a layoff, I was looking for work — and I saw the gap. Startups and small businesses couldn't afford loss prevention help, and usually couldn't afford HR help either, because they couldn't afford a person at $95,000 a year.

 I watched a friend in Utah nearly lose the small business he'd started — an EEO allegation that cost him $125,000 in lawsuits. Talking him through it, I knew I could have helped him if he'd just asked me before it all happened. I could have handled the risk, the rules, and the hard conversations before he ever had to deal with it, so he could grow his business with peace of mind.

 That's the gap. Startups, nonprofits, and small businesses can't afford loss prevention and HR. Founders, board members, and CEOs try to struggle through it themselves — and it puts a big target on their backs. I started this firm so I could become the person who guides them through that gap.

 They don't need me all the time. But when they need me, they really need me.

 That idea became this firm. Today, I work in the background for startups, nonprofits, and small businesses — handling the risk, the rules, and the hard conversations — so owners can stay focused on growing their business with peace of mind.
